Recent guidelines issued by the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Production require all companies selling Manuka to use the titles "monofloral" and "multifloral", instead of counting pollen, to categorize their products. Monofloral manuka is derived entirely or mostly from the Leptospermum scoparium plant, compared to multifloral manuka, a blend derived from a variety of plant sources with a significant amount from the manuka plant. Monofloral manuka honey is considered superior, as it contains higher levels of two of the plant's chemical compounds and represents the purest form of manuka honey, providing more health benefits.
